If you are planning to visit the area there are a number of facts of which you should be aware. First there is little in the way of organized activity – no theme park or amusement arcade. However if stress free activities such as walking, cycling or just being in the quiet parts of the Forest etc are your scene then the area has plenty to offer.

With bird watching, the Harbridge water meadows and Blashford lake complex have international recognition of an importance in the conservation of wildfowl.

47 different species have been seen of which Bewick Swan, Goosander, Bittern, Cadwell, Little and Great Egrets, Shelduck (which nest in rabbit burrows and on hatching the ducklings are taken by the parents early in the morning to feed in the shallow water) are of particular interest.
A second warning is that from west to east there are no public transport facilities. An hourly bus service along the A338 provides connections to Ringwood / Bournemouth and Fordingbridge / Salisbury and thence connections to national services.

One more point if you are driving through the eastern side of the parish, grazing animals are a risk both day and night. The 40mph speed limit must be observed at all times to minimise animal related accidents.
